La Orana (hello in Tahitian) Upon arriving at the Westin boat dock, we were escorted to the front desk, we got fresh orange juice and cold towel to refresh. To my surprise, we got upgraded from a base standard room to the highest level they had (3 or 4 level up), to an oversized Premium overwater villa (owv) with plunge/pool, sunset view, overlooking Mount Otemanu. They answered all the questions we needed to know about the resort. The lady (Marion) then escorted us via golf cart to our owv. FYI, the resort is at 40% capacity, 2 Ambassadors this week, 5-6 Titanium’s. Mostly Americans, some French, and others from other countries. All the staffs speak French, and most (not all) speak English. We spoke French so our conversation went very well and no issue. Our room was amazing, spacious, and clean. You can feel the resort is new, no smell of mildews, just clean fresh air. The resort do have a similarity with Meridien resorts. We got high end champagne, chocolate cake, and snacks for us to enjoy. There is a Nespresso coffee machine if you are a coffee lover. All amenities were there for our needs. The owv pool was refreshing and very relaxing, they use salt water for all the pools at the Westin. The sea dept from our owv unit is about 10-15fts, clear and calm, we could see all the fish under. I did not feel any current. Each room has life jacket/floaters for people who do not swim. We saw a turtle swimming next to our unit, we were told we could encounter black tip sharks, manta rays, stingrays, and other sea life fish. There is a shower located just near the ladder going to the water. Each villa has side walls so the next villa can’t see you, good privacy. Each unit has a blutoooth speakers so you can stream your music inside and on the balcony to listen music, nice touch. If I were to compare the Meridien Maldives and Westin Bora Bora, I feel the Westin is more exclusive, luxurious, and newer, but both are nice.
