Stayed September 2022 · 1 night

First to post on this hotel that opened in May 2022. Stayed with my spouse for single Saturday night stay in mid-September as part of long weekend along CT shoreline. Was intrigued by both the architecture (in inhabits the former Pirelli building, designed by Marcel Breuer - hence the hotel name - in 1967, widely considered as a masterpiece of Brutalist style) and the eco-consciousness (first net-zero energy hotel in US). Booked standard 1 King (which is described as "2 Bay King" on the hotel's own website, listed at 235 sq ft). Upgraded pro-actively several days in advance to much larger 1K Corner Room with Water View (600 sq ft). Parking is free: there's a small lot immediately adjacent to hotel (included 5 reserved Diamond spaces), with larger area across drive (which functionally serves as entrance to IKEA next door) under large solar panel bay - this is also where EV charging stations are located. Front desk staff cheerful, and genuinely eager to "show off" hotel's features. BLDG restaurant/bar (and small grab and go pantry) to left/south of the front desk, with open communal space to right (where I saw several folks on laptops in both evening and following morning). As expected, rooms embrace technology: shades and lights in room all operated through master control panel located in entry, with additional controls at bedside. Lots of natural light in corner room. As room name promised, we did have great views of New Haven Harbor, but less excitedly also views of I-95; expect that lower floors would have more of latter and less of former. Bathroom had both tub and walk-in shower, Bee Kind toiletries. Elected to have drinks and dinner at BLDG that night. Somewhat of a limited menu, but both my spouse and I enjoyed the food (steamed buns with short rib, chicory salad, fried chicken sandwich), with eager service from both bartender and server. FNB credit (2 x $18) applied to folio without incident. Elected not to have breakfast there, but did snap photo of menu before checking out. Overall, very enjoyable stay. Only (minor) gripe is that the mattress was quite low to the ground and not overly plush, but acknowledge that personal preferences vary (and many may find this a positive). Front of building, as taken from smaller parking lot Brutalist architecture, in all of its glory 7th floor layout - we were in 701 Corner room layout, as viewed from entry Bathroom - lots of natural light, no shades but somewhat opaque toward bottom; FDA assured us that staff tested looking in at night before opening and couldn't see anyone (which struck me as odd thing to offer, so suspect there must have been concerns and complaints). Walk-in shower to lower right of photo. View from NE facing corner, to larger parking lot with solar panel bays and EV charging Amenities provided included canned water, electric kettle (with Mount Hagen instant coffee packets). Refrigerator, safe, iron, and steamer all provided in closet space located between entry and bathroom. BLDG evening menu BLDG breakfast menu
